The Coppertone® Solar Research Centre

In 1971, the Coppertone® Solar Research Centre opened as one of the world’s largest state-of-the-art facilities for testing the effectiveness of suncare products.

The Centre's research director, Patricia Agin, Ph.D., a photobiologist who is well-respected in both the scientific and trade communities, has overseen the facility for over 30 years. Through Dr. Agin's unfailing commitment and the hard work of her fellow solar scientists, the Centre has become our central facility for developing and improving high-quality suncare products that consumerss want – products that are worthy of the Coppertone® name.

Product testing

Each year, the Coppertone® Solar Research Centre conducts more than 1,000 sunscreen tests to ensure that Coppertone® suncare products meet the brand's strict standards for quality, UV protection, performance and stability.

The Centre has also been responsible for most of the important inventions and innovations Coppertone® has brought to the suncare category, such as the introduction of the SPF system, waterproof products and continuous spray sunscreens, among others.
